01 Understanding Management Systems
Understand how organisations actually work through systems, processes, policies, objectives, responsibilities, controls and documented information. Explore Plan-Do-Check-Act and continual improvement.
02 Understanding ISO 45001: The Big Picture
Explore Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, their intended outcomes, essential terminology and the structure of ISO 45001:2018. Understand how Clauses 4?10 work together as one management system.
03 Audit Types, Certification & the ISO Ecosystem
Understand first-party, second-party and third-party audits and essential audit terminology. Explore the roles of ISO, certification and accreditation bodies, Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits, certification decisions, surveillance and recertification.
04 How Auditing Works: ISO 19011:2026
Apply audit principles in practical terms. Explore audit programmes, auditor responsibilities, independence, competence, risk-based auditing and the complete audit lifecycle.
05 Clauses 4 & 5: Context, Leadership & Worker Participation
Explore organisational context, interested parties, OH&S management system scope and the climate-change considerations of Amendment 1:2024. Understand leadership, policy and accountability. Distinguish consultation from participation, recognise barriers and gather evidence of non-managerial workers? involvement in hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigations and changes.
06 Clause 6: Hazards, Risks, Opportunities & Planning
Connect work activities with hazards, potential harm, OH&S risks, controls, monitoring and performance. Consider routine and non-routine activities, human factors, equipment, contractors, visitors, workplace conditions, changes, past incidents, emergencies and work away from the main site. Distinguish hazards, OH&S risks and opportunities from other management-system risks and opportunities. Explore legal and other requirements, planned actions and OH&S objectives.
07 Clauses 7 & 8: Making the System Work in Practice
Explore resources, competence, awareness, communication and documented information. Translate risk assessment into operational controls, using the hierarchy of elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls and personal protective equipment. Cover management of change, procurement, contractors, outsourced processes and emergency preparedness and response.
08 Clauses 9 & 10: Performance & Improvement
Understand monitoring and measurement, compliance evaluation, internal audits and management review. Explore incidents, nonconformities, causes, corrective action and continual improvement. Follow an incident through investigation, corrective action, implementation and evaluation of effectiveness.
09 Planning an ISO 45001 Audit
Establish audit objectives, scope and criteria. Review organisational information, identify areas of audit focus, develop an audit plan and prepare effective questions, sampling approaches and vertical and horizontal audit trails.
10 Conducting the Audit: Interviews, Observation & Evidence
Practise opening meetings, structured interviews with workers and management, workplace observation, document and record review and sampling. Verify evidence across risk assessments, permits to work, inspections, maintenance, training, health and exposure monitoring, contractor records and emergency arrangements. Follow audit trails from hazards and controls through implementation to performance.
11 Evidence, Nonconformities & Audit Reporting
Compare objective evidence with applicable requirements. Distinguish conformity, nonconformity, insufficient evidence and auditor opinion: an unsafe condition does not automatically establish an ISO nonconformity. Write findings using the requirement, evidence and nature of the failure. Communicate findings at closing meetings, develop conclusions, prepare reports and understand corrective-action follow-up.
